Windows Firewall and XP Service Pack 2
Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) contains a number of significant updates from Microsoft, primarily for enhanced security, but including some other technology improvements as well. If your system has the Automatic Updates feature in Windows XP turned on, installation of Service Pack 2 may start automatically over your Internet connection when you are online.
Schick Technologies is committed to supporting updates to XP Professional, including SP2. Our Windows XP SP2 testing is complete and we can report that CDR DICOM software is compatible with this latest update. During testing, the following issue was discovered and is described below.
SP2 installs updated firewall software that can prevent any program, including CDR DICOM, from connecting with its server. A typical symptom of this problem occurs after installing XP SP2 on a server, with CDR DICOM clients unable to access or retrieve patient data.
If this problem occurs, perform the following steps on the server or workstation (as appropriate) to resolve it. This procedure adds the SQL server instance used by CDR DICOM as an exception to the programs blocked by the firewall.
DICOM Servers
- On the server where SP2 is installed, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Security Center.
- Click Windows Firewall under Manage security settings for.
- Click on the Exceptions tab.
- Click Add Program.
- Browse to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$CDRDicom\Binn\sqlservr.exe and click Open.
- Click OK.
- Verify that sqlserver is checked under Programs and Services.
- Click OK.
DICOM Workstations
- On the workstation where SP2 is installed, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Security Center.
- Click Windows Firewall under Manage security settings for.
- Click on the Exceptions tab.
- Click Add Port.
- Type in ms-sql next to port name.
- Type in 1433 next to port number.
- Click OK.
- Click OK.
